Stephen Sommers’ movie version of GI Joe has its first official castmember… and it’s a girl. There may also be cooties involved.
Variety says frequently nude actress Sienna Miller has enlisted with the GI Joe team. She’ll be playing the movie’s female lead, described as “a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage.” Yawn. Nobody cares about the women of GI Joe. GI Joe is all about dudes running around shooting things.
If it’s not a dude or a gun, I deem it irrelevant. But then, I’ve made no secret of the fact that I was a Transformers kid. Maybe you GI Joe jerks think this is cool. I mean, if I thought she’d be naked again in it, I guess then I’d be excited. But this is GI Joe the chances of even getting her down to a bikini are pretty much nil, and if she’s not showing skin I’m not sure Sienna Miller really has any other talents. Except for making tabloid headlines that is, which is kind of useless on a film set. She was last seen in Stardust, which was a great film, but really no thanks to her since she played a pretty irrelevant part in it. Before that she was in Factory Girl, and naked, so people noticed.
GI Joe is supposed to start shooting in February to beat the SAG strike and be ready for an August 7, 2009 release date. Expect more substantive casting announcements to start trickling out as their shooting date grows closer.

I havent ever seen her on film, but I can imagine her with the hair and the glasses, and yeah, she'd look like a pretty good Baroness. Baroness was actually an important part of the higher eschelon of COBRA Command
