Sony Pictures is absolutely committed to making sure Spider-Man 4 happens, but it may take awhile. The LA Times reports that producer Laura Ziskin told California and Nevada theater owners in an address on Thursday that they’re hoping, at best, to have a new Spidey film ready by 2011.
That’s really not a surprise. They aren’t even in pre-production yet. They have no script, they have no cast, they have no director, they have absolutely nothing except the promise of lots more cash if they get it done. They will get it done, it’s just going to take awhile. That’s alright, we’ve got plenty of Marvel movies between now and then to keep us busy.

At some point word was they'd hired Vanderbilt, but I hadn't heard that he finished it. Ziskin says they don't have a finished screenplay... that either means he's not done or they don't like it and want to go a different diretion.

I thought they already had a script written by James Vanderbilt. Did they throw it away?
