Spock Takes A Lava Shower In Star Trek Into Darkness Character Poster

Is anyone else getting serious blockbuster flashbacks looking at this poster? Thinking back to another time when we were all getting excited about an ambitious sci-fi movie written in part by Damon Lindelof, and that included a marketing image of a major male character seeming to commune with the cosmos? No? OK, how about this reminder:

Alright, so there are obviously some major differences between Prometheus and the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness, even though both sci-fi films will wind up arriving in theaters full of secrets and promising a new spin on some classic sci-fi ideas. Star Trek Into Darkness, after all, is the sequel to the wildly popular Star Trek, and an attempt to continue what ought to be a very big franchise-- not an original genre riff with the promised vague ties to Alien. And just looking at this poster of Zachary Quinto as Spock, which premiered at Apple, you can sense the differences. Michael Fassbender's David is in some unexplained mystical realm, dazzled by the secrets of… something. Spock is in what's previously been revealed to be a volcano, and though he seems emotionally in tune with something happening here, there's also the promise of action that kind of comes with the volcano territory. Even the colors make a difference--

Spock's is actually the second character poster to debut recently, with Zoe Saldana's Uhura popping up yesterday in the middle of her own fight scene. Seems like a solid guess that there will be more to come, in just the few weeks remaining before the sequel finally arrives in theaters on May 17. Anyone want to make a bet on which character gets a poster next?
