If you saw Serenity then you know that in addition to being a fantastic actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor can kick an amazing amount of ass. Now he’ll attempt to do it somewhere besides the cold, dark reaches of Joss Whedon’s outer space in a new dramatic fighting movie from David Mamet called Redbelt.
But to me, the really interesting thing about the movie isn’t Ejiofor, even though I’m a fan of everything the guy does. It’s Tim Allen who apparently has a significant role in the movie… even though it’s most certainly not an awful Disney comedy. Apparently, Tim Allen wants to be taken seriously as an actor, and somehow he’s talked Mamet into helping him do it.
The movie’s first trailer has just popped up online, and now you won’t have to spend the first thirty seconds of it wondering “What the hell is that Tim Allen doing Mamet?” It is Tim Allen. Watch it here.

What's this the toolman is getting mad and beating people up now. This ranks up there with the first time I saw Bob Saget doing his pervy stand-up routine in terms of ruining my childhood memories.
Seriously though, it was a little bit shocking but that aside I thought Allen looked fine.
His character seems to be a more dramatic version of the one he played in Big Trouble which I thought he did a good job in.
