Tommy Lee Jones Shows Off Swagger In Historical Drama Emperor

"Let's show them some good old-fashioned American swagger." While I like to imagine this is what Tommy Lee Jones says to himself before he steps onto any movie set ever, it's actually a line he delivers as General Douglas MacArthur in the World War II historical drama Emperor.

We got a first look at the feature helmed by Peter Webber (Girl With A Pearl Earring) in a short but strong clip last fall, as Emperor was set to make its screen at the Gala Presentation of the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Now as this ambitious post-war movie gears up for its spring release, we've got a full trailer that's got plenty of salty American swagger, plus loads of intrigue. Check it out below, thanks to Yahoo:

Penned by Vera Blasi (Tortilla Soup) and David Klass (Walking Tall), Emperor centers on General Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox), an American soldier tasked by General MacArthur (Jones) with determining whether or not Emperor Hirohito should be hung as a war criminal following Japan's surrender. The Americans want the Emperor dead, but granting their wish could destroy the people of Japan.

As an expert in Japanese culture, Fellers must weigh Hirohito's crimes against the positive influence the Emperor has had—and could continue to have—on his country. Influencing a decision he must come to in only ten days is Feller's quest to seek out a Japanese exchange student (Eriko Hatsune) he fell in love with years ago. Toshiyuki Nishida, Colin Moy, and Kaori Momoi co-star.

Emperor will roll into theaters on March 8th.
