The movie’s title makes it sound like something plucked off the Lifetime channel, but after watching the international trailer for The Boat That Rocked it just rocketed up to the top of my must see movies of the year. Unfortunately, as of now it has no release date here in America.
For those of you in Europe and Australia this April, you’ll be able to watch a movie starring Nick Frost, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Bill Nighy as rebel disc jockeys running a floating pirate radio station. It’s kind of like WKRP, but at sea. It takes place at the birthplace of rock n’ roll, when Britain’s government run radio stations refused to play rock. To get around the legal restrictions, a pirate radio station is set up off the coast on a boat that quite literally, rocks. Watch the first trailer for The Boat That Rocked below, and start lobbying for a release date here in America right now:
