V/H/S/2 Images: Watch Out For That Cyborg Eye

After completely loathing the sloppy horror anthology V/H/S, I was planning on sidestepping its sequel, despite the praise it gained out of its Sundance premiere. But even more buzz grew out of SXSW, with horror fans cheering the inclusion of The Raid's Gareth Evans into V/H/S/2's batch of directors. When this omnibus of terror made it to the Tribeca Film Festival, I was convinced to bite the bullet and gave it a shot. And, man, am I glad I did. (Read my review here.)

While V/H/S veterans Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett return with new tales of monsters and mayhem, they are joined by an enticing slate of noteworthy filmmakers, including the aforementioned Evans, Hobo With a Shotgun director Jason Eisener, ABCs of Death contributor Timo Tjahjanto, and Blair Witch Project's helmer Eduardo Sanchez and producer Gregg Hale. Within the snappy form of film shorts, each dives into a deeply bizarre story to terrorize and entertain audiences, and the results—while uneven—are far better then this franchise's first outing.

V/H/S/2 still

With V/H/S/2 nearing its release, Dread Central has unveiled two new stills from the film. The one up top is from Evans and Tjahjanto's collaboration "Safe Haven," which follows a group of investigative reporters as they attempt to interview a controversial cult leader. The second is Wingard in the starring role of his contribution, "Clinical Trials." This vignette has the writer/director/actor playing a man who has recently lost an eye and is struggling with the newly-installed cyborg replacement's creepy glitches. As you might guess, it's not exactly an upgrade.

V/H/S/2 will be available on iTunes/On Demand June 6, 2013. A theatrical release will follow on July 12th.
