X-Files 2 Rumors Return
The first X-Files movie was met with something between disinterest and disappointment by X-Files fans back in 1998. Ok, it made $83 million but that’s nothing when you consider how popular the show was at its height. Except by the time the movie was made it’s popularity peak was in the rearview mirror. They missed their window.
If making the movie in 1998 was missing their window, what would you call making a sequel in 2008? David Duchovny probably calls it his best chance to be relevant again. That probably explains why he’s quick to tell people that he’s in final negotiations to star in X-Files 2. In fact, today he said that to IESB
Except the thing is, we’ve heard this before. He said exactly the same thing back in 2005, when he claimed they’d be shooting in summer of 2006. That never happened, and frankly the whole X-Files sequel movie rumor thing has been going strong since the late 90s, and has so far only amounted to empty promises.
If for some reason he’s actually telling the truth this time and the movie is about to happen, Duchovny tells IESB it will be a supernatural thriller focused on the characters of Scully and Mulder. Well, at least he thinks so. Actually, they don’t even have a script.
No it’s happening! Really!
Right. I plan on treating X-Files 2 like the legend of bigfoot until I actually see the first movie trailer. You’d be wise to do the same.
