X-Men: Apocalypse Will Include All Of These Favorite Heroes
X-Men: Apocalypse isn’t holding back on including a variety of familiar mutant faces. In addition to the younger versions of Professor X, Magneto, Mystique and Beast all returning for the conclusion of the "First Class" trilogy, other mutants slated to appear include Quicksilver, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Nightcrawler and many more. Now we’ve learned that three big actors have been added to the cast to play especially popular heroes from the world of X-Men.
Sources have informed us that we can expect cameos from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Halle Berry as Storm and Channing Tatum as Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse. They are among the 17 actors who will be filming during principal photography, which begins in late April. No word yet on what roles they will play in the plot, but being cameos, they probably will be just quick drop-ins while the other mutants face off against the titular villain.
Halle Berry will be sharing Storm duties with actress Alexandra Shipp, who was cast as the teenaged Storm back in January. The weather-controlling mutant is the second character who will be portrayed by two different actors in X-Men: Apocalypse, the first being Magneto. Hugh Jackman’s appearance continues the actor’s uninterrupted streak of playing Wolverine in every X-Men film. However, unlike most of his leading roles as the metal-clawed mutant, we probably should probably expect something akin to his X-Men: First Class cameo, although hopefully he has more to do this time than just drop the f-bomb.
As for Tatum, this will mark his big-screen debut as Gambit, although this will be the character’s second appearance in the X-Men film franchise, previously played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Director Bryan Singer mentioned last year that he wanted to include the card-throwing mutant, and with Gambit’s solo film hitting theaters on October 7, 2016, perhaps this is 20th Century Fox’s way of emulating their Marvel Studios competitors and using the ensemble blockbuster to get audiences familiar with the character before he heads off on his own adventure.
This cameo information was also backed up by El Mayimbe from Latino Review, so it’s looking likely that we’ll be seeing Wolverine, Storm and Gambit stop by for a small visit on X-Men: Apocalypse. Our sources also mentioned that X-Men: Apocalypse will include many other characters from X-Men: Days of Future Past. It’s not clear whether they meant the First Class characters, or mutants from the future timeline, but if true, this film could potentially feature the biggest lineup of heroes and villains in the franchise’s 16-year history.
X-Men: Apocalypse will be released in theaters on May 27, 2016.
