X-Men: Days Of Future Past Extended Edition Won't Be Released Until 2015

Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past was an unquestionable hit. Not only was the movie an absolute success with critics - pulling a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes - it also made an amazing $741 million at the global box office. Obviously the film will become only more profitable when it arrives on Blu-ray and DVD, but 20th Century Fox isn't going to let the success train stop there. Instead, they're drawing the whole thing out and planning more for the blockbuster in 2015.

So what am I talking about? It has been officially confirmed that an extended edition of X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released - though we're going to have to wait until next year for it to arrive . Discovered by The Hollywood Reporter, this news actually came directly from Fox’s Executive Vice President of Marketing Communications James Finn. He was asked by a fan on Twitter for more information about a rumored longer cut of the most recent X-Men title, and he revealed that the version of the film we saw in theaters is the only one that will be seen in 2014:

For those of you not up on your Blu-ray/DVD collector lingo, this is what's referred to as a "double dip." Twentieth Century Fox is hoping that every X-Men fan in the universe is so excited for the home video release of Days of Future Past that they will purchase the first boxed edition that hits stores. Then, they'll send out the Extended Edition a few months later, continuing to hope that the X-Men fans will throw out the copies of Days of Future Past they already own in favor of buying the newer, better version. This happens all the time in the industry, but at least this time we know that the Extended Edition is actually coming (in many cases, the newer, better package isn't announced until long after the first release has been out in stores). Some of you may not want to hear this, but if you really want to see the longer cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past and don't want to end up paying for the same movie twice, your best course of action is to skip purchasing the film in October and just wait until 2015.
