Production officially wrapped on Thor: Ragnarok, and though we've still got a long way to go before the movies release, we're already getting a taste of Thor's new costume. Though we've seen shots of Thor and Loki in civilian clothing, we haven't seen anything from their actual Asgardian attire. That changes today because Chris Hemsworth has shared an image of himself in an all new Thor costume. Check it out below.
This image comes courtesy of Chris Hemsworth, who shared the image via his Instagram account. It features Hemsworth in costume as Thor standing alongside his director Taika Waititi. The purpose of the post is to share their support for the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, which is currently fighting to stop the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline from being constructed a half-mile from their home, potentially contaminating their drinking water. At least 141 protestors were arrested by police the other night after a riot broke out, and when you're fighting it doesn't hurt to have Thor in your corner.
The costume itself is in line with what we've come to expect from Thor, but it might feature the most deviations from the norm. While we don't know if the costume is missing any odd trinkets, it looks like it's a more streamlined costume. The suit is missing Thor's standard torso circles, and looks like it's made more of leather than metal. He's also missing his sleeves, but Thor can make those whenever he wants. It's impossible to know if this is Thor's only costume in the film, but it's more than likely he has at least one more costume change; even Captain America averages two suits per movie.
Even the Hulk will have his own costume change in Thor: Ragnarok. We've known for a while thanks to a display at Sand Diego Comic Con that Hulk will be wearing his gladiator armor from the Planet Hulk storyline from the comics. It stands to reason that Thor might get some gladiator armor of his own if the rumored rematch between the two Avengers does indeed happen.
Excitement is only growing for Thor: Ragnarok. In addition to having an amazing cast, the film is shaping up to be one of Phase 3's strongest contenders. That's saying a lot when you've also got Spider-Man: Homecoming and Black Panther on the way. The third film in the Thor series is already being boasting as a unique take on the character, with director Taika Waititi bringing his own flavor the MCU.
Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, and Karl Urban. The film is currently scheduled to release on November 3, 2017.
