The other day it was revealed that James Gunn shot the next four Stan Lee cameos, and the internet was atwitter with speculation. The cameos could have literally been anything. And while we won't know what those cameos are until they are up on the big screen, we did learn that they were crazy fun to film. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn shared what it was like to film the comics legend, and it sounds like Gunn wished the day would have never ended.
James Gunn took to Facebook and elaborated about the cameos he filmed with Stan Lee. While he didn't say anything specific, we did learn a few things. For one thing, Stan Lee likes to bust balls. Lee is the kind of guy who likes to joke around, and a lot of those jokes seem to come at the expense of others. I wouldn't have wanted to be in Tom Holland's shoes when Stan Lee - the creator of the most popular and beloved Marvel character - said he didn't think Holland was a good Spider-Man. Yeah, he was only joking but Lee is a savage.
James Gunn also clarified that he only filmed three cameos, and that a mysterious second director did the fourth one. Even more cryptic was Gunn's line about the third not being what people expect. Not quite sure what that could mean, but could it be more than just a simple cameo?
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director went on to say in the Facebook post that he filmed the cameo for Doctor Strange and would refer to Scott Derrickson to make sure the shot was right. Gunn filmed "MANY versions' of that cameo and would feed line after line for Stan Lee to say. This means that at least one of Gunn's cameos was for Doctor Strange. That just leaves the second and the especially mysterious third one to figure out.
James Gunn hopes that one day Marvel will allow him to release his cameo outtakes with Stan Lee so we can all enjoy it. It's amazing that we haven't gotten anything like that yet. Marvel usually doesn't have the best DVD extras, but Stan Lee outtakes is a step in the right direction.
