With the final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story behind us, we are officially nearing TV spot and promo territory. The marketing for the highly anticipated spin-off will be kicking into high gear soon, which means more and more details about Rogue One will begin to pour out. What we have for you today is one such TV spot, the features Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso rallying the troops and just a bit of X-Wing action. Check it out below.
It's just a quick 30 second TV spot, but it has all of the classic Star Wars feels. Jyn Erso delivers a rousing speech on hope that is intercut with footage that we've mostly seen already. There is a tad bit more focus on X-Wings, and reveals that the famous Star Wars vehicle will take part in at least two battles in Rogue One, including both the beach planet and another on the dark rock filled world. There's also plenty of shots of Erso and her mercenary team putting the beat down on some stormtroopers, as well as the customary shot of the Death Star looming in the background.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (directed by Gareth Edwards) is the first Star Wars film to not follow the tales of the Skywalkers and Solos. The film is trekking uncharted territory and delivering a story based on entirely original characters to the canon -- with the exception of Darth Vader, Mon Mothma, and Bail Organa. Rouge One is instead empowered entirely by the massive size of the Star Wars mythology, providing an entirely new experience for even longtime fans of the space opera series. Couple this with the beautiful visuals and scale provided by Gareth Edwards and then you've got one of the most highly anticipated films of the year.
Of course, Rogue One ties into a key moment in Star Wars history and leads right into Star Wars: A New Hope. The film follows a team of mercenaries working for the Rebel Alliance who are hired to steal the plans for the Empire's new superweapon: the Death Star. Capable of destroying entire planets, the fate of the galaxy depends on the abilities of a ragtag group that are severely outnumbered and outgunned. Leading the group is Jyn Erso, whose brilliant father may have had something to do with the construction of the Death Star. The film stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang, and James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader.
Rogue One: A Star Wars is set to hit theaters on December 16 so until then stick with CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated on all things Star Wars.
