Is John Cleese Entering The DCEU? Here’s What We Know

For all of its faults, the DCEU has never had any trouble signing on strong acting talent for its films. From Margot Robbie, to Ben Affleck, to Jeremy Irons, the silver screen DC universe is a genuinely star studded environment. That being said, it's somewhat lacking in the comedy department. Now that may be poised to change, as it seems that legendary comedian John Cleese may actually be getting ready to possibly join the DCEU. Check out the tweet below to see for yourself.

As pointed out by Twitter user, Dennis Lamb, John Cleese's own Twitter account was recently followed by DC photographer Clay Enos, as well as the official Twitter account for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although it's a seemingly minor detail, it has many people speculating that the Monty Python veteran may actually join the DCEU at some point in the near future.

By itself this doesn't seem like a very interesting development. However, given trends we have previously noticed from other actors who have joined the DCEU, it seems like possible confirmation that John Cleese could at the very least be in talks to sign on for a future DC movie. Prior to the official announcement that Joe Manganiello would take on the role of Slade Wilson a.k.a Deathstroke in the solo Batman movie, we saw similar activity on his own personal Twitter account. History could definitely be repeating itself here; we will just have to wait and see.

If this turns out to be true, it wouldn't be the first that that DC has tapped a primarily comedic actor to fill out the ranks of one of its movies. Comedian Ike Barinholtz made a strong impression as Belle Reve guard Griggs during the events of David Ayer's Suicide Squad earlier this summer. As such, it seems increasingly possible that DC wants to expand its comedic roster to lighten up its admittedly dark tone. As far as comic relief goes, there are few performers more up to the job than John Cleese.

Of course, now we begin the speculation process. If John Cleese joins the DCEU, he could take on any number of different roles supporting different heroes. We already know that Zack Snyder's upcoming Justice League team-up film will feature a ton of cameos that will seriously flesh out the entire DCEU, so the potential characters for him to play are virtually limitless at this point.

Whether or not John Cleese will actually join the DCEU remains to be seen. We will keep you up to date with any and all relevant information related to this story as new specifics become available to us. Stay tuned for more awesome details!
