Rogue One’s Runtime Has Been Revealed
With tickets for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story now on sale, folks are going to be worked up in a frenzy over their next experience in the Star Wars universe. Every little detail is going to either bring joy or despair, as the days wind down and the picture becomes clearer. For now though, there's still plenty of mysteries in that galaxy far, far away, and one of them is about to be solved. The running length of Rogue One has officially be revealed. Prepare for a 133 minute journey into the past of the Star Wars saga.
While there's been some scattered rumors throughout the internet, Lucasfilm creative executive Pablo Hidalgo took to his Twitter to answer a fan's request for information. That request yielded the following Twitter exchange which pegs Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the neighborhood of the length reported above. Hidalgo's confirmation is as follows:
Comparatively, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has a middle of the road running time, with The Empire Strikes Back's theatrical cut being the shortest film at 121 minutes and Attack of the Clones weighing in with the longest length at 142 minutes. With The Force Awakens running 136 minutes, fans of the pacing and length of last year's blockbuster return to the world of magic that George Lucas originated back in 1977 will more than likely take to this film's similar time constraints like a duck to water. Of course, that's if the story has managed to finally coalesced into a product that everyone can get behind.
It's no secret that the film has gone through some issues involving the final product and its connection to A New Hope, as the film is supposed to lead to the first 10 minutes of that very film, both in tone and events. With reshoots, and a last minute replacement of the film's composer, the final film will more than likely run to the wire when it comes to locking in the final product. Even Pablo Hidalgo's exact remarks of the 133 minute run time being "in the neighborhood" of the truth suggests that there may still be minor tweaking and fixing to be had before the film starts to screen for critics and preview audiences alike.
