Spider-Man Trailer: See Michael Keaton's The Vulture In Action
I think there's really only two words that sum up our collective reaction to our first good look at the new Spider-Man movie: "holy," and "crap." The first official trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming debuted this evening on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and there's already so much to talk about. One of the most fascinating reveals from the entire trailer was Michael Keaton's Adrian Toomes, a.k.a Vulture, a fan-favorite villain who will take on the role of the film's central antagonist. Check out an awesome action shot of the character below.
We have known for quite some time that Spider-Man will face off against Vulture in the upcoming movie, but actually seeing Vulture on our screens is otherworldly. Based upon everything we know about Homecoming, it sounds like the suit will primarily be comprised of reverse engineered alien technology stolen from downed Chitauri craft during the Battle of New York -- which is a nice way to further tie the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. This is plain to see from the first image, as Vulture's outfit eschews much of the character's more birdlike traits in favor of a more streamlined, jet engine look. Overall, it looks like a cross between Iron Man's suit and Falcon's flight harness, and we think it looks totally badass.
In keeping with that jet motif, the helmet on Vulture's suit also seems to invoke imagery of combat aviators. Check out a close-up of the character below:
Note the fur around his neck, which seems to serve as a form of insulation when he flies, as well as the facial mask serving as a breathing apparatus. In all honesty, Vulture's face is one aspect of the character that would be incredibly easy to mess up, but this costume strikes the perfect balance between comic book camp and real life menace.
The final Vulture shot from the trailer seems to occur after a battle with our hero, judging by the fire burning in the background. Check it out to see for yourself:
I think it's safe to say that we're all insanely excited to see what Vulture brings to the table in Homecoming. With an Academy Award-winning actor taking on the part, and a beautiful design for the character's flight suit, Adrian Toomes could potentially become the best silver screen Spider-Man villain of all time. We will just have to wait and see.
