The Fate Of The Furious Trailer: Fast 8 Looks Ridiculous And Crazy
Expectations for the various Fast and Furious movies are very simple. All we want from the movie is big stars, cool cars, and totally insane action sequences. The good news is that the first ever trailer for The Fate Of The Furious delivers all of that, as you can see in the embed below.
This evening, the folks behind The Fate Of The Furious (the eighth chapter in the franchise) hopped on Facebook for a special live event that concluded with the debut footage that you see above. Even with a new director at the helm in F. Gary Gray, it doesn't look like the movie is going to lose the footing that the series has spent many years establishing, and it very much looks like it could be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2017. Apparently something has happened to Dom Toretto that has led him to utterly and completely turn his back on his family, but we'll have to wait a few months to find out exactly what that is.
All together, this The Fate Of The Furious trailer is actually considerably longer than most trailers, but it certainly does manage to pack a lot in. Highlights include Dom's car being harpooned by his old gang, and both Deckhard Shaw and Hobbs breaking out of prison is pretty badass. Of course, it's hard not to look at the submarine sequence at the very end and not immediately tap it as the set piece that we're most looking forward to in the finished film.
Based on a script by Chris Morgan (who has written every Fast and Furious film since Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift), the new film picks up with Dom (Vin Diesel) and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) living a generally peaceful life, with the other members of their crew trying to do the same. Unfortunately, this is all changed when a mysterious woman (Charlize Theron) comes to Dom and seduces him into coming back into the world of crime - and to turn on his family. The new globetrotting adventure notably is the first in the series to hit the streets of New York City, but fans will also see explosive sequences set in Berlin, Russia, and Cuba.
In addition to Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron, The Fate Of The Furious will also feature a crazy ensemble that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. Helen Mirren is also set to make her Fast and Furious debut in the blockbuster, but given that she isn't featured in this trailer, we're not quite sure at this point exactly how much of the movie she is in.
