Why Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Snuck In That Farscape Cameo

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was packed with cameos, from the usual Stan Lee appearance to David Hasselhoff briefly appearing as himself (when Ego transformed to look like the Baywatch star) to Sylvester Stallone playing Starhawk. But one of the cameos that wasn't nearly as prominent was from Ben Browder, who is arguably best known for playing John Crichton on the cult science fiction TV series Farscape. Browder played the Sovereign Admiral in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and while he didn't receive a lot of screen time, director and writer James Gunn was keen on including Browder in the sequel due to his love of Farscape.

For those who need more of a refresher than seeing the actor in gold makeup, Ben Browder's Sovereign Admiral appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha ordered him to have all the Sovereign guns fire on the Guardians, as she didn't want the team to get away with the Anulax batteries that Rocket stole. As James Gunn noted in the above Instagram post, he couldn't resist asking the star of one of his favorite sci-fi shows to cameo in his next Marvel movie, and a few years later, Ben Browder's walking on to the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as a member of the Sovereign. In addition to his time on Farscape (four seasons and The Peacekeeper Wars miniseries), Browder is also known for playing Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell in Stargate: SGI's last two seasons (and the two-direct-to-video movies that followed), Sam Brody on Party of Five and Ted Gaynor on Arrow.

The good news for Ben Browder is that he could potentially return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Enraged by being foiled by the Guardians again, Ayesha created an artificial being she called Adam, and when Adam awakens from his birth pod, she plans on him being the instrument of the Guardians' destruction. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot and Mantis have to deal with Thanos threatening all of existence in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 next, but once that's been taken care of, presumably Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will see the team battling Ayesha's creation, who is better known by his full name, Adam Warlock. Browder could easily reprise the Admiral, because as we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the Sovereign prefer to attack their enemies from afar, so he likely won't have fallen in combat.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be available on Digital HD starting next Tuesday, August 8. The Blu-ray and DVD release will follow on August 22.
