Avril Lavigne Engaged To Nickelback Frontman Chad Kroeger

It's likely no one would really care if Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger each got engaged to people we'd never heard of-- after all, both musicians hit their prime a decade ago, and for many of us are reminders of the terrible taste in music we all had in high school. But Lavigne and Kroeger getting engaged to each other? That's enough to send the Internet into a collective tailspin.
And that's exactly what happened when the news broke last night, with People reporting that this match made in Canadian rock and roll heaven is happening. Kroeger proposed to Lavigne on August 8 with a "14-carat diamond sparkler," according to People. The two met when they collaborated in February on a song for Lavigne's upcoming fifth album (cue your surprise that there are three other albums between the one that gave us "Complicated" and now). "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a source told People, using the kind of words that no one in the history of man has ever said out loud.
Though Lavigne is 10 years younger than her beau, she's the only one with a previous marriage behind her, having spent three years married to Sum 41's Derick Whibley. There are many, many mean things to be said about the respective quality of bride and groom's musical output, but you know what? That's just not necessary. Many congratulations to these two. But if word leaks that "Sk8er Boi" gets played at the reception, I mean, I won't not laugh a whole lot before going back to solemn congratulations at the emergence of true love.
