The Women Of Marvel Are Getting Their Own Series, Get The Details
Another day, another Marvel press release regarding a new comic series. The news has been coming quickly from Marvel over the recent weeks regarding which books will be part of the Marvel universe when everything restarts at #1 this fall. We’ve now received confirmation that one of Marvel’s newest teams will be continuing their partnership in their own new series.
The A-Force will assemble for their own ongoing series for Marvel Comics in A-Force #1 this fall. The all female Avengers team which includes She-Hulk and Captain Marvel among others was first introduced as part of the Secret Wars series several months ago. G. Willow Wilson, who wrote the A-Force Secret Wars series will be handling the same duties for the regular A-Force series comic as well.
The A-Force is part of a welcome effort to better diversify the Marvel universe on the page. In addition to the female Avengers we also know that Miles Morales will be returning to the pages of Spider-Man this fall as well. We've also seen a female Thor and and African American Sam Wilson take on the mantle of Captain America. Marvel has been promising their “All-New, All-Different” Marvel universe for some time and the more they release information about it the more different it seems. Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a strong grasp on many of the traditional characters it gives the comic book much more freedom to try new things without “taking away” the beloved classic versions.
While it’s not surprising to see the A-Force continue, Marvel got a lot of positive press from the announcement and they’ve only been around for a few months, it is nice to know that they’ll have their own dedicated book rather than simply being Avengers Team B. The expectation is that Marvel will be publishing slightly fewer regular titles once the “not a reboot” is completed so some heroes who had regular adventures may be left to cameos when it’s all said and done. All indications are that most of the focus in Marvel’s comics will be on MCU characters, rather than the X-Men or Fantastic Four. Doctor Strange is another who will get his own series and also has a movie on the way, so it makes sense for a team that includes Captain Marvel would get the star treatment, the rest of the team certainly has the possibility of showing up in a future Marvel movie as well. Except probably Dazzler, as a mutant she likely falls into Fox’s camp.
Marvel does seem to be keeping up its end of the deal when it promised a new and different Marvel universe. Are you excited to see new characters taking center stage among your old favorites?
