Peter Jackson has tapped a composer to score his latest directorial effort, The Lovely Bones, but for a director of Jackson's caliber the pick seems more than a little unusual. Upcoming Film Scores reports Brian Eno will set the music for the movie about a young girl who is raped and murdered and goes on to watch what happens to her family from a box seat in heaven.
Eno, better known for his part in the glam rock band Roxy Music and subsequent solo experimental rock albums, has also worked in the music industry producing for U2 and Coldplay. Despite all that musical background he has yet to really make his mark as a film score composer. His only recent film project of note was 2005's The Jacket.
Eight years ago, when a pre-Lord of the Rings Jackson was best known for drivel like The Frighteners and Meet The Feebles, picking a relative newcomer would have made sense. Now, when Jackson has the pull to get a collaboration with just about anyone, the choice seems strange. But, if there's one thing Jackson has earned himself it's a little bit of trust. But, if Jackson sticks to his usual movie length of three hours, here's hoping Eno will be able to keep up.
