For the last several months casting for Watchmen has been a item that fans of the graphic novel have been ogling over and the rest of us have had to put up with. So much drama for one movie. The latest member of the Watchmen creative team isn't an actor, and his addition isn't bringing any new drama, just really great music.
I really didn't care for 300 as a movie, but there were parts I enjoyed, and one of those was the score. TYler Bates conjured up music equal to Zack Snyder's breathtaking visuals and visceral (if not ludicrous) retelling of history.
Obviously pleased with Bates' work on 300 and their other collaboration, Dawn of the Dead, Snyeder has tapped Bates to bring that same talent to bear on Watchmen, according to the composer's web site.
That's not the only good news for Bates. Word is that he has also accepted director Scott Derrickson's offer to score the upcoming remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Why exactly the movie needs to be remade I'm not quite sure. Why they've cast Keanu to play Klaatu I'm not sure either. But, despite that, at least we know the music's going to be interesting.
