The date when our family takes its first entry level DSLR bundle of joy home has been confirmed by the doctors…or err, Canon. My wife and I have been looking longingly at the rumors surrounding Canon’s upcoming EOS Rebel XS (1000D). Today Canon officially announced the camera, the price tag and release time frame. Get your wallets ready, because it’s time to spend some cash money!
The Rebel XS is essentially meant to get novice photographers into an upgraded system with as little muss and fuss as possible. A few brief trial runs with the XSi and XTi have proven intuitive and extremely non-intimidating. Unlike the time I saw Giovanni Ribisi in the subway, which was loads more intimidating than you could imagine. The XS comes with the DIGIC III image processor, 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, the questionably valuable Live View and 7-point focus. Among other things, such as a battery. Batteries should be included with electronics, don’t let 80s films with old people trick you into thinking otherwise.
The EOS Rebel XS is scheduled to release in August for a suggested price of $699.
