Most of the time I find speed bumps to be more an inconvenience than a deterrent to speed. Not that I speed, of course I always drive at the speed limit. I’m just saying they don’t slow me down more than that. Yes, I’m going with that answer. In any case the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is testing out a new initiative that will be much more forgiving on your car’s suspension. Fake speed bumps.
The NHTSA has tested out faux speed bumps in Phoenix, which turn out to only be an optical illusion. Now we come to find out that first thoughts on the initiative were correct. After a few runs through the area drivers figured out they weren’t real and speeding continued on. For around a month or two the speed limit was obeyed by double the drivers. Then people caught on and speeding continued.
”Initially they were great,” Phoenix Police traffic coordinator, Officer Terry Sills, told the AP. ”Until people found out what they were.”
