How Wanted Pulled Off The Insanity

How Wanted Pulled Off The Insanity This past weekend you had the choice to watch a fantastic new Pixar film or be surprised that Wanted wasn’t a total piece of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen crap. Now you may be interested in finding out how they did all those wonderful tricks. Plus you’re impatient and don’t want to wait for the obligatory making of featurettes on the DVD.

Wired has a really interesting, and spoiler laden so be warned, article on how Russian Director Timur Bekmambetov and his talented team pulled it all off. And what I like the most is he insists it’s always better to have the real actors in the shot, rather than CGI. So when that train is derailed there are real people inside being tossed about by hydraulics systems.

The article talks about interesting decisions such as moving the bridge rather than the train when McAvoy’s character jumps over. They used computerized winches to move the bridge 3 meters, and that way it was consistent with each and every take. Or how about actually strapping Angelina Jolie to the hood of a Dodge Viper? I’m sure that’s been a fantasy of someone’s at one point or other.

If you’re interested in movie magic the Wired article is a must read.
