Take your Ultimate WALL-E you can have it. I saw the movie, and I saw the lasers in use. No, if I’m going to bring WALL-E home with me it’ll have to be on DVD or in – gasp! – LEGO form. Too bad here isn’t an official LEGO WALL-E…yet. But Pixar animator Angus MacLane has made a wonderful version that looks absolutely perfect. Perhaps a bit too yellow in the body, but damn near perfect.
In an interview with The Brothers Brick MacLane talks about working with LEGOs. He says that building with the iconic blocks can get you thinking in 3D space when it comes to animation. So any aspiring Pixar animation employees might want to start taking these “toys” a little more seriously.
” Also, when building with LEGO you often have to simplify or caricature the intended form,” MacLane told The Brothers Brick. ”This is similar to caricaturing motion and simplifying acting ideas, which is an important part of the animation process.”
