There hasn't been much news on the Sense8 front lately. The complicated science fiction drama from the minds of the Wachowskis was renewed for a second season by Netflix back in August of 2015, but we've barely heard a peep from the show since then. Well, Sense8 fans have marched through the desert and found an oasis because not only has Sense8 revealed the release date for Season 2, but the show has also announced that they will be releasing a Christmas special before the end of the year.
Making the announcement on the official Sense8 Twitter account, the sci-fi show will air its second season on Netflix on Friday, May 5, 2017. The season will consist of 10 episodes, and in typical Netflix fashion, they will be made available all at once (or perhaps for download) for your binging pleasure. The plot details for the new season are incredibly vague and will pick up where Season 1 left off. The Sensates will be on the run from Whispers (Terrance Mann), and forced to question their very identity. That's not super detailed, but more will be made clear as we get closer to the release date.
In addition to the second season, Sense8 will also have its own Christmas special. The two hour long Sense8: A Christmas Special will launch globally on Friday, December 23. The details of the holiday special are as equally vague as Season 2: "The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other's lives finding deeper connections, learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself." It's not clear where the Christmas part of all that comes in, but you'll be able to watch it before the month is out.
For those who are not caught up on the world of Sense8, it's a science fiction drama from the Wachowskis (The Matrix) that depicts the story of eight strangers from around the globe who suddenly find themselves inexplicably connected to each other. The eight share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with each other, allowing moments like a bus driver to use the martial arts skills of one of the other seven. If that sounds confusing, it's purposeful; that's just the basic premise. They are also hunted by some nefarious types, some of them fall in love with each other, and each one has enough drama in their lives to satisfy eight people. It's certainly a high-concept idea, but it makes for a very interesting -- if not altogether easy to follow -- show.
Sense8: The Christmas Special will hit Netflix on December 23, with Season 2 following on May 5, 2017. More information and trailers are bound to drop soon so stick with CinemaBlend for all future updates.
