16 And Pregnant's Valerie Fairman Is Dead At 23
It's never fun to hear that a celebrity has died, no matter how long or iconic their run was, but it's especially tragic when someone young passes away, mostly because the news is so rare and unexpected. This morning we learned that former 16 and Pregnant star Valerie Fairman has died at the age of 23. Early reports indicate that it appears Fairman died of an overdose.
Reports on Thursday indicate that Valerie Fairman was at a friends home in Coatesville, Pennsylvania when she passed away. Per TMZ, her friend felt Fairman had been in the bathroom for far too long and began calling out to her. Eventually that friend actually broke down the door to see what was going on and found Valerie to already be taken in by what is reported to be an overdose. Valerie Fairman has had a drug problem for some time, and it was even a part of her appearance on 16 and Pregnant, which aired back in 2010.
Valerie Fairman was a major part of the second season of 16 and Pregnant, a season that also featured the likes of Jenelle Evans, Leah Dawn Messer, Kail Lowry and Chelsea DeBoer, who would all go on to appear in Teen Mom 2. Valerie was only 15 when she found out she was going to be a mother. She gave birth to her daughter, Navaeh in 2009, and following a health scare that was showcased on the MTV series, Navaeh turned out to be ok. She is currently seven years-old and has been staying with her grandmother, Valerie's mother.
While a few of the teen moms showcased in 16 and Pregnant have figured out ways to maintain some sort of celebrity after their MTV appearances, Valerie Fairman had a pretty troubled life. In 2015, she was arrested for prostitution, along with seven other women. Prior to the prostitution arrest, reports had suggested she had been trying to clean up her act and get it together, but her "dope" addiction had made it difficult to move forward. She wouldn't be the only former 16 and Pregnant star who has dealt with problems.
Drugs have taken the lives of some of the most talented celebrities ever to grace the big and small screen. They've claimed the lives of everyday individuals, and even reality TV stars. It seems clear that Valerie Fairman struggled with drug issues from very early on and it was likely those issues that claimed her life. Reports indicate that the coroner is currently running toxicology reports to find out exactly what happened in the last hours of Valerie Fairman's life, but that the scene indicated it was an overdose that claimed the former reality star's life. We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available. In the meantime, our thoughts go out to Fairman's family, her daughter and her friends during this upsetting time.
