Patrick Warburton Really Wanted To Play The Tick Again, Here's Why He Didn't
We've known for a while that Amazon's proposed reboot of The Tick would be moving forward to series. It's reportedly coming to the streaming service, soon, as Amazon has stated the new show will get a 2017 release date. So far, we know that Peter Serafinowicz has signed on to play the titular character and that the series will be going in a different direction than the now-cult 2001 series of the same now. However, it didn't have to be that way. In fact, original series lead Patrick Warburton revealed he really wanted to come back for the Amazon remake. Here's what he had to say:
While speaking with Vulture, Patrick Warburton revealed that he really wanted in on Amazon's reworked version of The Tick. However, Amazon's vision for the new series just didn't work with Patrick Warburton as the head. He's still making some money on the backend as a producer, and really only has nice things to say about how Amazon is choosing to reboot the property. Besides, as he also noted, the new version of The Tick isn't exactly the version he brought to life in 2001, with its limited budget and more comedic tone.
With that in mind, perhaps the dryly funny Patrick Warburton isn't the best fit for the newer, darker version. Currently Warburton is also busy. Besides constantly doing voicework for Family Guy, the actor has a steady gig on Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events. While that show has not been renewed for Season 2 yet, we do know ratings were good on the drama. Plus, Netflix has a penchant for renewing its originals, anyway. Jumping into a superhero suit is a way different experience than playing a fictional version of a famous children's book author (Warburton plays Lemony Snicket on the show). Still, he's still making money as a producer on Amazon's The Tick and it's not like the actor is having to fight to land gigs.
As is typical of Amazon, the streaming service already has a pilot available for users. Because of this, we already know a little bit about the planned reboot and have already seen what Peter Serafinowicz looks like as the rebooted version of the popular comics character.
