Flashpoint is a new CBS drama series that follows the a special group called the SRU (Strategic Response Unit), which is inspired by Toronto’s Emergency Task Force. The SRU is a rescue team whose goal is to save hostages, talk down suicidal people, defuse bombs, scale buildings and take down gangs. Diffusing these insane situations often means negotiating and getting inside the suspect’s heads. Enrico Colantoni plays Sgt. Greg Parker. Among his team are Ed Lane (Dillon) and Jules Callaghan (Johnson).

In the series premiere, titled “Scorpio,” the Greg and the SRU attempt to rescue a woman who’s been taken hostage by a crazy guy outside an office building.
This series looks like a nice blend of drama and suspense. Add that to the fact that Enrico Colantoni is starring in this series and I don’t need any other reason to check out the pilot. I adored Colantoni in Veronica Mars and love that he’s got his own show now. As a bonus though, Amy Jo Johnson’s also in Flashpoint. You might remember her from her role in Felicity or as the Pink Ranger in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It looks like she’s going to be toughened up a bit for her role in this series and I’m eager to see how her character fits into the story. All of that said, this series airs on Friday nights and it’s summer so there’s a good chance this’ll be one of those series I’ll be watching via TiVo on Saturday mornings. It’s already been seasons-pass’d.
