ABC's Last Resort Adds Jay Hernandez And Jay Karnes

ABC's upcoming drama Last Resort is apparently still building onto its already strong looking cast. Joining a cast that already includes Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman are two more actors, one of whom will be familiar to those who've seen Hostel and Quarantine, and the Friday Night Lights movie, while the other may be recognizable to those who've seen Shawn Ryan's The Shield.

Joining ABC's line-up this fall is Last Resort, a drama co-created by Shawn Ryan, which follows the crew of a U.S. submarine who question their orders to fire their nukes and after being attacked in response, take refuge on an island while they attempt to deal with the situation. Andre Braugher is on board to play Captain Marcus Chaplin, while Scott Speedman has been cast in the role of XO Sam Kendal. The latest bit of casting for the series sounds like it involves roles for people on the mainland side of the story, and they're both named Jay. From what EW reports, The Shield's Jay Karnes has joined the action drama to play the Secretary of Defense. His voice is heard in the pilot, but this news suggests we'll be seeing him at some point in the series' first season.

Also joining the drama, per EW, is Jay Hernandez, whose recent feature roles have included Hostel (I&II) and Quarantine, but I remember him better for Friday Night Lights and his starring role opposite Kirsten Dunst in Crazy/Beautiful. In Last Resort, Hernandez will play a significant role with an eight-episode arc as Paul Wells, "a handsome and seemingly nice-guy charmer who tests the loyalty of Scott Speedman’s character’s estranged wife in the series (played by Jessy Schram)." Will she remain faithful to her husband? Or will Wells' charms prove to be too tempting?

ABC has Last Resort scheduled to premiere Thursday, September 27 at 8:00 p.m.. Check out the trailer for Last Resort here.
