New CBS 'Extant' Teaser Says Life Always Finds A Way
Following up on word that CBS's sci-fi drama Extant will premiere on July 2, the Eye has given us a brief teaser, which offers no glimpse of star Halle Berry, but does emphasize the title's meaning, with its focus on life and existence — and the opposite of extinction— and also throws in a tagline that seems intent on referencing the Spielberg connection here. Sure, "Life finds a way" should technically be credited to Michael Crichton, who penned Jurassic Park, but let's face it, how many of us read "Life always finds a way" with Jeff Goldblum's voice behind the quote? Exchange "always" for "uh" and there you have it.
Steven Spielberg directed Jurassic Park, and he's among the executive producers for Extant, through Amblin Entertainment. Spielberg connection.
Whether or not the tagline is an intentional nod to Spielberg, we can only speculate. What is evident is that, between the title and this teaser, life factors into Extant in a big way. And that's one more clue we have to work with as we wait for this series to debut. CBS's description for the drama is especially vague:
"Experiences" and "events" seem to be the key words here, and the major source of vagueness as they could reference anything. But factor in the focus on non-extinction and that part about something changing the course of human history gets just a little bit clearer. Kind of.
Here's a closer look at the imagery used in the teaser, for those who want to see if there's more to mine from the teaser beyond its focus on human existence and life in general…
CBS just announced the premiere date for Extant, and we learned earlier this month that new episodes will be making their way onto Amazon Prime's streaming service within days of airing on CBS.
In addition to Halle Berry, Extant also stars Camryn Manheim, who will play the role of Sam Barton, Berry's character's best friend and closest confidant. The series will premiere Wednesday, July 2 at 9:00 p.m.
