DC Comics' Manhunter Coming To Arrow Season 3
We can always rely on Arrow ton constantly rotate in different superheroes and villains from the larger DC Comics universe, and today the show has struck again with yet another new addition to Season 3. New reports have surfaced saying that Mark Shaw, a.k.a. Manhunter will be appearing in the third episode of the upcoming slate, and he will be played by Medium star David Cubitt.
This news comes to us via The Hollywood Reporter, which adds that Manhunter will have strong ties to John Diggle, the character played by David Ramsey. While many different characters have had carried the moniker, the Mark Shaw version of Manhunter was a public defender who grew sick of seeing guilty criminals slip through the legal system. Through his Uncle, he learned about the crime fighting sect known as the Manhunters, and from there assumed a vigilante role complete with costume. You can check out his look from the comics below:
THR says that the Arrow version of the character "will be an A.R.G.U.S. operative in Corto Maltese who crosses paths with Diggle." The trade also notes that the show has actually previously featured links to Manhunter. Prosecutor Kate Spencer, who played a key role in the second season of the series played by Chelah Horsdal, also goes by the name Manhunter in the comics - but her character won't factor into the show's future, given that she died in the episode "Streets of Fire."
David Cubitt, who originally hails from England, has been all over U.S. television for decades, though is probably best known for starring as Detective Lee Scanlon opposite Patricia Arquette on the CBS cop drama Medium. He recently starred in two episodes of Bates Motel, and also has a big screen role coming up in Legandary Pictures' Seventh Son.
As alluded to above, Manhunter is just one of many new characters coming to Arrow this season. Ray Palmer a.k.a. Atom, played by Brandon Routh, is perhaps the biggest addition, but others include Ted Grant a.k.a. Wildcat (J.R. Ramirez), Felicity's mother (Charlotte Ross), Katana (Devon Aoki), Maseo (Karl Yune) and a new version of Count Vertigo - now played by Peter Stormare. As was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, Ra's al Ghul will be the central antagonist for the season - though we still don't know who the show has hired to play the part. Whoever it ends up being, they will have some big shoes to fill thanks to Liam Neeson's performance in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.
The third season of Arrow is currently in production, and the show will be back on The CW starting October 8th, with it's spinoff, Flash, scheduled to start airing one night before on October 7th.
