New Daredevil Spot Teases Punisher, Full-Length Trailer
Hurrah, the full trailer for Season 2 has now been dropped, courtesy of Netflix. If you'd like to catch the full Season 2 trailer (and we suggest you do), please head here.
Netflix’s comic book adaptation series Daredevil was such a massive success that it helped create an entire television universe. We’ve since been introduced to Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and will eventually meet Iron Fist. The crazy popularity of Daredevil resulted in Netflix renewing the series less than two weeks after Season 1 was released. Since then, fans of the dark adaptation have been eagerly awaiting when they would get to see Matt, Foggy, Karen, and the crew continue their adventures in Hell’s Kitchen. Marvel has just released a new teaser for Season 2, check it out:
This teaser, which was released via Marvel’s official twitter page, is pretty remarkable. One of season’s central themes was revealed, as well as the revelation that a full Season 2 trailer would be released tomorrow.
The bit of dialogue, said by The Punisher himself Jon Berthnal, is a pretty intriguing concept. Apparently Punisher and Daredevil come to blows, before Frank Castle introduces a change of perspective for Matt Murdock. What is the difference between the two vigilantes? While Punisher is known for using extreme means to accomplish his goals, including murder, extortion, and kidnapping, Daredevil isn’t that far removed. Daredevil has yet to take the life of an enemy, but Murdock admits to feeling the urge to kill in Season 1. He just hasn’t actually followed through.
Punisher is known in the comics for his extreme and brutal measures to besting his enemies. An antihero, he is one of the few protagonists in the Marvel universe who has no problem using guns and killing. This urge to make bad people suffer comes from losing his family to hands of a brutal mob shooting. Punisher vows to avenge their deaths, and their killer is the first of his victims.
While Matt Murdock’s past isn’t exactly sunshine and butterflies, his trauma and loss of his father was during his childhood. Due to his tutelage at the hands of Stick, he was able to focus his feelings of anger and become a productive member of society. Since Frank Castle’s loss came later in life, he saw his entire existence destroyed in an instant and vowed to use his military training to murder members of organized crime.
Up until now, the plot of Daredevil Season 2 has been a total mystery. We’ve known that both Punisher and Elektra will be making their debuts, but besides that it has been vague. Now it appears that the conflict between Punisher and Daredevil is one of morality, rather than just violence. This seems to be a common theme in modern comic adaptations, as both Batman V Superman and Captain America: Civil War will focus on how superpowered individuals could possibly fit into a modern world. Are they above the law? What separates them from the villains?
