Eli Roth's Horror Series Hemlock Grove Adds Dougray Scott

From Eli Roth and Gaumont International TV, Hemlock Grove is a new horror series for Netflix based on the just released and critically acclaimed novel by Brian McGreevey. Adapted for the small screen by McGreevy and Lee Shipman with Roth set to direct, the 13-episode first season has been very busy over the last few weeks casting all the key characters. On top of initial hires, Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard, the show soon pilfered the fledging Terra Nova for Landon Liboiron, playing another suspect and eventually Skarsgard's partner in solving crime. Today the series nabbed another big name to co-anchor the series in MI:2 villain Dougray Scott.

Deadline announced that Scott is currently in negotiations to play the male lead alongside Janssen in the original horror series. He'll play Norman Godfrey, the older brother of Janssen’s dead husband and, according to the article, "one of the founders of the Godfrey Center for Biomedical Technologies. Wealthy, but with modest tastes and an equally modest home, Norman is sickened by Olivia’s displays of ostentation." All I can say is I really hope that Scott isn't being set up as the seemingly good guy simply to shroud the fact that he's the one ultimately pulling the strings behind the biotech facility curtain.

Hemlock Grove is a supernatural thriller that opens with a young girl's corpse found in the woods of Hemlock Grove, Pennsylvania. The body is mangled in a way that suggests the killer might not be human but something else. Could something have escaped from the local biotech facility? The local biotech facility is owned by the Godfrey family - Norman (Scott) plus sister-in-law Olivia (Janssen), the 'freakish' daughter Shelly (an homage to Frankenstein?), and lastly, son and suspect Roman (Skarsgard). But others think that gypsy kid and self-professed werewolf Peter (Liboiron) might be the real guilty party. And as the case goes cold, Roman and Peter find themselves the primary suspects and therefore, decide to team up Hardy Boys-style and solve the mystery themselves.

Hemlock Grove will air on Netflix in January, 2013. It stars Dougray Scott, Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Penelope Mitchell, Landon Liboiron and Freya Tingley. From Eli Roth and Gaumont International Television, the series based on the novel of the same name by Brian McGreevy.
