Emma Rigby Joins Once Upon A Time Spinoff

ABC’s Once Upon A Time spinoff is coming together nicely and quickly. With the April 7 start date approaching to shoot the presentation, the project has settled on a new name and has found its Red Queen. First, the spinoff is now rolling with the title, Once Upon A Time in Wonderland, which is both a classy reminder of Sergio Leone and fitting for a series that is tentatively planned to air during Once Upon A Time's winter hiatus, should the network like the project. Secondly, Emma Rigby has signed on to play the Red Queen.

Most of the casting focus so far has been on the big three: Alice and her two traveling companions. However, as a more ominous presence, the Red Queen is arguably a bigger name to add to the cast. Rigby has signed on to the role, which, according to Deadline, will be based on the playing card character from Louis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass that has popped up in nearly every Wonderland spinoff or retelling to date.

Rigby is probably most known for her role in the British series Hollyoaks, but she recently popped up in an episode of Ripper Street and just finished shooting The Physician. The actress joins Michael Socha, who is set to play The Knave in the project, as well as Sophie Lowe, who will play Alice, and Peter Gadiot, who will play Alice’s other brave companion. With the four-scene presentation prepping to be shot, we’ll have to wait and see whether this one gets picked up by ABC. Stay tuned for more news about Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.
