The Extended Flash And Arrow Crossover Trailer Is Historical And Action-Packed

After airing new episodes each week since premiering their new seasons in early October, Arrow and The Flash are taking a break next week, but they won’t be gone for long. The following week will see the second crossover between the two shows, and although a preview was released earlier this week, there’s now an extended trailer out that gives viewers a better idea of what’s to come in the episodes “Legends of Today” and “Legends of Yesterday.”

In addition to the main members of Teams Arrow and Flash joining forces once again, this year’s crossover also sees Kendra Saunders (played by Ciara Renée) and Carter Hall (played by Falk Hentschel), a.k.a. Hawkgirl and Hawkman, at the forefront. While the first preview only briefly touched on the plot of the two episodes, this trailer gives more background on why Legends of Tomorrow’s main antagonist Vandal Savage is targeting the Hawk heroes.

Just like in the comics, Kendra and Carter are the latest reincarnations of ancient Egyptian lovers, but now we know that the immortal Savage was connected to them four thousand years ago. If those quick flashback shots are any indication, it looks like Savage may be the one responsible for the deaths of Kendra and Carter’s original selves. As described in the episodes' synopses, Savage will target the couple again in the present day, drawing the attention of the Arrow and Flash groups.

Beyond the history lesson, the trailer also features a lot of cool action moments, like Savage attacking Team Arrow in Oliver Queen’s apartment (at this point he might as well move considering all the people who have already broken in there), Kendra’s wings being unleashed, Barry Allen catching projectile weapons and…a meteorite about to strike an Egyptian palace?! Okay, that’s weird. Both Carter and Malcolm Merlyn make it clear just how dangerous Savage is, but the heroes think they have a shot against him. We know they won’t be able to kill Savage, but it will be interesting to see how they stop him from destroying Central City.

Just like other events on Arrow and The Flash this season, from Jefferson Jackson becoming Firestorm’s new cohost to Sara Lance being revived from the dead, this crossover is being used to help set up Legends of Tomorrow. The 2016 ensemble series will see Rip Hunter recruiting a team of heroes and villains to travel through time to stop Savage across the ages. Hawkgirl and Hawkman will be among the show’s key players, though as we can see in the trailer, Kendra doesn’t have the memories of their past lives together like Carter does. Their relationship issues aside, Kendra will adopt her superhero identity for the first time and take the first step towards her destiny.

The crossover will kick off on The CW starting Tuesday, December 1 with The Flash, followed by Arrow the next day in the same timeslot.
