Hemingway & Gellhorn's Historical Romance Will Hit Blu-ray In March

The story of Ernest Hemingway’s romance with Martha Gellhorn is a lengthy journey with plenty of sweet moments and stressful ones, as well. It makes sense that someone would eventually put together a piece of art following the relationship, but it was a bit of surprise the winner was HBO Studios funded the project. If you missed HBO’s tale, fittingly titled Hemingway & Gellhorn, during the subscription cable network’s initial run, you’ll be able to catch it when it hits Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on March 19, 2013.

Starring Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman, Hemingway & Gellhorn was nominated for 15 Emmy awards and even took home two, for music composition and sound editing. The miniseries follows the couples' trials and tribulations, as well as their introductions to various interesting social circles, from the glamorous Hollywood crew to the First Family. If all of this is of interest, the both Blu-ray and DVD copies will come with the same extras and those bonus features look decent, as well.

The “Making of” segment looks pretty comprehensive, and will focus on editing, costumes, and casting. Another segment will take a look at the special effects. Finally, audio commentary will round out the bonus features on the disc. There won't be a ton of special features, and certainly they leave a little to be desired, including no feature on the music despite the Emmy win and no short historical biography. Still, if you liked Philip Kaufman’s film, this may be one to purchase, especially as the Blu-ray will only cost $24.99 and the DVD will run for a scant $19.97.

Hemingway & Gellhorn Bonus Features

  • “Making Hemingway & Gellhorn
  • “Behind the Visual Effects”
  • Audio Commentary with director Philip Kaufman and editor Walter Murch
