Jason Sudeikis Announces That He's Leaving Saturday Night Live

As of May, Jason Sudeikis was still undecided as to whether or not he'd return to Saturday Night Live. Or at the very least, he wasn't ready to reveal whether or not he'd be coming back to the NBC sketch comedy series for its 39th season. Alas, it looks like Sudeikis' run on the series is done. He announced the news to David Letterman this week. The episode of the late night talk show airs tonight, but you can watch the clip below (via TVLine).

Sudeikis isn't the only cast member making his exit after Season 38. The actor follows Fred Armisen and Bill Hader, both of whom are not planning to come back to the show next season. Sudeikis joined Saturday Night Live in 2005, the same year as Hader, Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg. All four funny people have found success outside of SNL. For Sudeikis, it's success in film, including Hall Pass and Horrible Bosses. And coming up, we'll see him starring opposite Jennifer Aniston in We're the Millers, due out in August.

There aren't a lot of current SNL players who've been around longer than Sudeikis. Armisen started in 2002. Meanwhile, Kenan Thompson's been around since 2003. And Seth Meyers has been with the show since 2001.

Among Sudeikis' recurring roles is portraying Joe Biden in the political sketches…

BIden:

And way back when, he and Wiig teamed up to play the Two A-holes, a hilariously unlikable couple...

And he also played a cop in the "Scared Straight" sketches…

After so many seasons, so many sketches and so many great celebrity impersonations, it's disappointing but not entirely surprising that Sudeikis is ready to move on to other things. But he'll most certainly be missed on the show as it moves forward toward Season 39.

I think we'll miss this guy the most...
