Karen Gillan And Arthur Darvill Leaving Doctor Who

Back in August we reported the rumor that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, who play Amy Pond and her husband Rory, would be leaving Doctor Who at the end of the then-still-unfolding season. At the time, some commenters decried us as villainous rumor-mongers and general bastards for spreading such ridiculous nonsense. Well, it turns out we had the timeline wrong, but the core concept right. TV Guide reports that showrunner Steven Moffat has announced that Amy and Rory will indeed be leaving the show after the upcoming season.

It's not terribly surprising, really. The Doctor goes through companions like most people go through shoes, and he's been wearing -- er, traveling with Amy for what will have been three seasons at the end of this upcoming one. In true cryptic form, Moffat offered a few words to titillate and generally irritate us:

The Ponds will be rejoining us next series. But the final days of the Ponds are coming. I am not telling you when and I won't say how. But that story is going to come to a heartbreaking end.

Well, you didn't really expect him to provide details, did you? It's a shame, because I've become quite fond of the Ponds, both for their individual personalities and because Karen Gillan is a stunning redhead with legs a quarter mile long. Still, all good things and all that such-and-such. Moffat hasn't disappointed me so far, so I look forward to seeing where he takes us and who will next move their luggage into the TARDIS. Maybe we'll finally get to see the swimming pool. In the mean time, just remember the question of the day: "Doctor who?"
