Magic City Season 2 Will Premiere In June

With Spartacus ending in just two days and some brand new Starz programming just over the horizon, it’s easy to forget that the subscription cable network actually has a pretty interesting returning series hitting the schedule in just a couple of months. Magic City, the period drama following mobster activity and the rise and maybe fall of a business owner running a posh hotel in the 1950s, will return to Starz on June 14.

Deadline first reported the news, noting that Magic City will premiere its second season just a week after the network’s newest drama, Da Vinci’s Demons, ends its Season 1 run on the station. It’s nice to know that even if Starz isn’t offering a ton of original programming, there will be still be new stuff to watch consistently. June 14 is a Friday and new episodes of Magic City will continue to air on Fridays at 9 p.m. ET.

We don’t know a ton about Season 2 of Magic City, yet. Regardless, the new season is pretty notable, thanks to Starz renewing the series even before its Season 1 premiere. When we left off, there was trouble brewing for Ike (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) with both the law and the gangster he is somewhat beholden to, Ben Diamond(Danny Huston). Even worse, his son, Stevie (Steven Strait) was also headed straight for trouble with Diamond, which means there should be plenty of openings for even more drama in the new episodes (anyone else rooting for Stevie to bite the dust?). With James Caan signed on to play an even bigger gangster than Ben Diamond in the new season, it’s no surprise an early trailer for the series already has Ike under water.
