NBC Picks Up J.J. Abrams' Undercovers

J.J. Abrams is really spreading around his talent on the small screen. With Lost wrapping up on ABC and Fringe airing on Fox, it’s no real surprise that he’s managed to mark some territory on NBC. Word is, the Peacock picked up his new series The Undercovers.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the deal Abrams had with NBC said the decision needed to be made by today and so it was. Fortunately, its good news as The Undercovers is the first official drama series pick-up for NBC. Set to follow a married couple who are re-activated as CIA agents after years of retirement, The Undercovers stars British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe.

"Having J.J. on our creative team is a great reason for celebration," said NBC primetime president Angela Bromstad. "In 'Undercovers,' J.J. and Josh have found a breakout couple that is rich in character and brimming with romance and action. We feel he's found the perfect cast."

Sure, the premise of The Undercovers sounds almost nothing like Abrams’ recent hits Lost and Fringe but it does sort of have an Alias-esque ring to it. It sounds like something to look forward to.
