Necessary Roughness Close To Renewal For Season 3

There's been good news and bad news for USA series, with some shows getting renewals and others cut loose by the cable channel. Word of the fate of Necessary Roughness has not officially been announced, but it sounds like the show is close to renewal for a third season.

Necessary Roughness stars Callie Thorne as a sports-psychologist who works with the New York Hawks and is struggling to keep her practice running. Eleven of the sixteen episodes for Season 2 aired this summer, with the remaining five episodes set to air this winter to close out the second season. And now it looks like fans can anticipate even more Necessary Roughness after that. Today Deadline is reporting that USA Network is in the process of finalizing a renewal for the drama's third season. If everything goes as planned, the order will be for ten episodes, which is down some from Season 2, but for fans of the show, renewed for fewer episodes is certainly better than not renewed at all, right?

Assuming the renewal goes through, Necessary Roughness joins Royal Pains, Burn Notice, Suits, Covert Affairs and White Collar among the shows receiving renewals at USA. The fate was not as good for Common Law and Political Animals, neither of which were renewed for second seasons. Fairly Legal was also cancelled.

Necessary Roughness returns for the rest of Season 2 on January 23 on USA.
