Norm MacDonald Enters Comedy Central Hotseat
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Norm MacDonald, the comedic mastermind and man brimming in snark we watched so fondly on SNL all those years ago. It’s been less long since Comedy Central had a segment on sports—Colbert and Stewart have been all over the Superbowl this week and Onion SportsDome aired for the first time last month. Now, according to Deadline, Comedy Central is in the process of combining the best of both worlds, having announced Sports Show With Norm MacDonald.
The series is being produced by MacDonald himself, along with Marc Gurvitz, Lori Jo Hoekstra and Daniel Kellison. Sports Show’s basic premise will see MacDonald take the weird, the difficult, the inane, and anything else relevant in the sports world and will discuss it in comedic fashion. It’s a new approach for Comedy Central to take, finding a funny guy and getting him to say funny things about culturally relevant topics, but I’d guess Macdonald’s up to the challenge.
This isn’t the first time the ‘Weekend Update’ host had to deal with off-the-cuff, live audience jazz. It is the first time we’ll actually be subjected to the brunt of his full opinions though, so prepare to brace yourself. Oh, and Comedy Central has already signed up for an eight episode stint, so brace a little harder.
