It seems likely that more details on his departure will emerge. In the meantime, Mediaite.com posted a statement from MSNBC on the subject of Olbermann’s departure from the show and the final broadcast of the politics and news commentary series.

MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have ended their contract. The last broadcast of “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” will be this evening. MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC’s success and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, starting Monday (1/24), The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell will take over Olbermann's 8:00 p.m. timeslot. Ed Schultz' The Ed Show will move to O'Donell's 10:00 p.m. timeslot.
