Woman Leads Police On High Speed Chase In Scooby Doo Van
Police have to deal with a ton of different shenanigans on a routine basis, but there was nothing routine about a recent high-speed pursuit in Redding, California. Local news in the area is reporting that on Sunday, police officers were called to the chase to pursue resident Sharon Kay Turman, who was violating her parole while hanging out in a minivan painted to look exactly like The Mystery Machine from the Scooby Doo franchise. She got away with it too, even with those meddling police officers.
Here’s what happened. Sharon Kay Turman was hanging out in the Chrysler minivan when the Redding Police Department was notified that Turman was allegedly violating her probation. The police went to investigate, but instead of pulling over, Sharon Kay Turman used the might of The Mystery Machine to flee, and flee hard. The Redding Police says she was driving more than 100 miles an hour in the old 1994 minivan, which would be a little impressive, were she not being a danger to herself and others. At one point, police officers say she ran a red light and nearly hit four other vehicles.
Eventually, the 51-year-old woman dropped the vehicle and fled on foot, where she still eludes police. As for The Mystery Machine? That puppy has been impounded. And if you don’t quite have a picture of what a police pursuit of The Mystery Machine might look like, please take a look at the totally wild vehicle, below. The vehicle does not exactly act as camouflage.
I’m just saying, if I were trying to break parole, I’d probably try to be as innocuous as possible. You know, drive a basic vehicle. Kick back. Maybe try a pink wig or a fake mustache or some other disguise (that’s something I learned from Scooby Doo, actually). I probably would not attempt to drive around in the most flamboyant vehicle possible and attract attention as I went.
It’s likely that California resident Sharon Kay Turman will be picked up and taken in at some point, but at this time her reputation precedes her. We’ll let you know if the Redding Police eventually do catch her and drag her in to the precinct. Maybe someone should hire Mystery, Inc to jump on the case.
