Will.i.am Will Join The X Factor As A Guest Mentor In Season 2

Former Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am has decided to give mentoring a shot on a hit U.S. singing competition series. Since the man has already appeared as a mentor on the U.K. version of The Voice, you would think he’d be joining Christina and the gang during Season 3. As it turns out, you would be wrong. Apparently, will.i.am is not a man prone to TV series loyalty. He’s headed to Fox to play an important role on The X Factor.

One of the cool things The X Factor does is have its judges bring their teams to their homes to give the contestants a chance to relax, but also to understand what hard work and a little talent can potentially bring them. Last year, the biggest name to guest mentor during these “at home” moments was probably Rihanna, who joined judge L.A. Reid. When will.i.am joins the show, he will first appear in the home portion alongside Britney Spears.

The musician and songwriter has had pretty big success as a singing competition mentor in the past. According to THR, the man’s The Voice U.K. stint proved he could dole out pretty good advice. His contestant, Tyler James, eventually earned a runner-up honor on the successful program.

With will.i.am officially down as a mentor, it shouldn’t be long before we determine who else will be helping the judges to mentor on Fox’s reality series. As exciting as any mentoring news would be, I honestly wish they would just let the cat out of the bag about who is hosting. Fingers crossed Khloe Kardashian is still the frontrunner. Yes, I’m willing to defend that.
