April Has A Day Of The Dead Release Date
George Romero’s zombie flicks have been ripe for exploitation lately. First you had the Zack Snyder Dawn of the Dead a few years ago, then the similarly themed Dead Rising video game. Finally there’s the upcoming Day of the Dead remake – a film that doesn’t seem to be faring as well as the other Romero revisits.
The Day of the Dead remake, which stars Christa Campbell and Ving Rhames, currently has a whispered February release date (although I haven’t seen any promotion of that anywhere) but has also had an April 8th DVD release date announced by First Look Home Entertainment (via Bloody-Disgusting). Sounds to me like this is all but a direct-to-DVD remake now, which doesn’t speak highly for the product.
Both B-D and IMDB still have the February release date down for Day of the Dead, so this isn’t currently a completely direct-to-DVD affair, but I would expect that’s where most people will see it, because, without any real advertising backing it up, I don’t expect there’s a wide release planned.
The original story follows a group of military and scientific personnel trapped in an underground bunker after a zombie attack takes over the world above. As the scientists experiment on samples of the undead, the zombies discover the bunker and start to infiltrate it.
