New Babylon 5 Creator's Diary Online
If you’ve somehow missed our continued coverage of it, “Babylon 5” is coming back. Series creator J. Michael Straczynski is bringing new tales in the B5 universe to life via some straight to DVD stories dubbed “The Lost Tales.” Contrary to what you might read among the uninformed, fans of the series are excited to see some of their favorite characters return. I should know. I’m one of those fans, and I chat with a bunch of the other fans on a regular basis, including some that let us know when new material arrives online. Hopefully that excitement will translate into dollars when the DVD comes out, which will then translate into more DVDs in the future.
For now, JMS has been trying to keep us all excited about the project with behind the scenes looks at Babylon 5: The Lost Tales. His latest video diary entry (which will also be on the DVDs) is located at The Babylon 5 MySpace page. This one gives us a look at the area off stage where he sits and watches things happen on monitors. The one really interesting thing in the video (other than a crotchety Doug Netter) is a glimpse of people in Minbari costumes and makeup.
Now we’ve seen the Minbari throughout the series, so what makes them interesting? Well, the focus of this first set of “Lost Tales” is on human characters in order to keep costs down on alien makeup and effects. I mistakenly assumed that meant we wouldn’t really see any of the Babylon 5 universe’s rich alien figures. Apparently, I assumed wrong.
The MySpace page has quite a few other assets for promoting Babylon 5: The Lost Tales including wallpapers, AIM icons, and even a MySpace page layout design. Click here to check out the Babylon 5 MySpace page including the latest video from JMS, and don’t forget to pick up The Lost Tales on DVD, July 31st.
