Bobby Heads For DVD In April
Frequently movies come out that are accused of “cast stuffing” – cramming as many celebrity stars into a picture as possible. There’s no real reason for them to be a part of the movie from an artistic vantage point, they just are there to provide another name for the movie’s advertising. Despite a massive list of talented actors, however, Bobby is not such a film, using its ensemble for a compelling and critically acclaimed tale.
Bobby is now headed for DVD on April 10th and it’s bringing it’s massive cast with it. The film is directed by Emilio Estevez and features Anthony Hopkins, Helen Hunt, Laurence Fishburne, William H. Macy, Elijah Wood, Sharon Stone, Ashton Kutcher, and Lindsay Lohan. Well… they can’t all be “A” listers.
Bobby weaves the stories of 22 individuals who were at the Ambassador Hotel the night Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated. Through their stories you get a sense of what the world was like in 1968, and why Bobby’s death was incredibly tragic.
The DVD release announced currently only holds two featurettes in the way of bonus materials, “Bobby: The Making of an American Epic” and “Eye-witness Accounts from the Ambassador Hotel.” Presumably these focus on the making of the movie and accounts from real life equivalents to the fictional characters in the film.
